Sutton Selective Eligibility Test (SET)

A shared first-stage test that decides which children are eligible for the Sutton selective schools. Children who pass go on to a second-stage test (one joint test for the girls' schools, one shared test for the boys' schools); passing does not guarantee a place.

Format

SET: two multiple-choice papers, one Maths and one English, with no verbal or non-verbal reasoning; each paper takes between 40 and 50 minutes, with a break between them. Second stage: boys sit a shared test for Sutton Grammar, Wallington County Grammar and Wilson's with two non-multiple-choice papers (Maths and English), each around 45 minutes to 1 hour; girls sit a joint second-stage test for Nonsuch and Wallington High School for Girls. Children from outside the area

There is no overseas provision: children must sit the test in person at one of the participating schools. Applicants living outside England may apply only if they have a linked address in an English local authority area and can show they will return there before September of the entry year.
