11+ entrance test

ISEB Common Pre-Tests

A set of four online admissions tests used by many independent senior schools. It is not a consortium: each school runs its own admissions, but your child sits the tests once and the results are shared with every school they apply to that asks for them.

Area

UK-wide, Overseas

Format

Four multiple-choice, adaptive online tests in English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, taking 2 hours 15 minutes in total. Results are age-standardised. Usually taken once in Year 6 for Year 7 entry; some schools use them as an early step towards Year 9 (13+) entry. The tests are normally sat at the child's current school or another approved invigilation centre. Parents register through ISEB's Guardian Portal and share their child's Applicant ID with each senior school. Each school sets its own deadline for completing the tests, so check with every school you apply to.

Children from outside the area

Pupils anywhere in the UK and overseas can sit the tests at an approved invigilation centre.
